White Historical Palace
The White Palace of Marghazar was built in 1940 by Miangul Abdul Wadud (Badshah Sahib), the first ruler of Swat, in the little village of Marghazar, some 13 kilometers from Saidu Sharif. The palace was given its name because it was constructed of white marble. The name of the palace has changed three times: initially Swati Palace, then Motti Palace, and finally White Palace. The palace has been converted into a hotel. The Wali of Swat, Miangul Jehanzeb, spent his summers at the White Palace in Marghazar. It was then converted into a tourist resort, named White Palace, In 1935, the then-King of Swat, Miangul Abdul Wadud (Badshah Sahib), was persuaded by the lush greenery of the beautiful environment to create a summer retreat here. The King brought marble from Agra, bronze from Belgium, and Turkish artisans to design and build the palace, which was completed in 1941. It was first known as Swatti Taj Mahal, then Motti Mahal, and finally Sufed Mahal (White Palace). Then it was enhanced with carefully chosen wildlife and plants, transforming it into a miniature zoo and botanical garden.
